Left Handed Violin Bass

In 1953, Gibson released the violin-shaped EB-1 Bass and in the 60’s Paul McCartney made the Hofner Bass visible to the world.

Supposedly, the reason McCartney bought the Hofner bass was because he couldn’t afford a Fender bass guitar. But soon he discovered the guitar had many plus points.

Not only was the Hofner lightweight, and easy to play, it produced a deep thudding sound of an acoustic bass, more than the Fender or any other bass for that matter. And, because of its shape his left handed playing didn’t make it look upside down, like the Fender would have done.

Hofner was a well respected manufacturer of violins, cellos and double basses before they unveiled their first bass guitar in 1956. And, thanks to McCartney, the Violin Bass remained in production for a long time.
